Fiber Arts: Weaving

Weaving_NavajoThird graders capitalize on last year’s weaving experiences by going deeper into this process while developing craft.

Liam figured out how to weave his name on a cardboard loom and then fill in the spaces around the letters.

Students are exhibiting the studio habit of “Developing Craft” (Hetland, et. al. 2013 Studio Thinking2) by practicing weaving skills that they learned last year.  As they gain understanding of the limits of small cardboard looms, they become inventive by manipulating the warp and weft threads.
