A first grader’s response to the irises

 

 

 

Irises, with their distinctive sepals and petals, offer an interesting challenge for young painters. Clearly their forms differ from more traditional flowers and demand close observation. These artists are using acrylic paint leftover from a 5th grade mural project. The painting on the left shows an example of the two types of irises and a stem of salvia that was also in the vase.
