Paper Mache

Paper mache2Third and fifth graders have been introduced to sculpture through the media of paper mache. This process begins with an armature built from recycled materials, such as boxes and egg cartons. Add a balloon head and rocks in the feet as ballast, and the object is ready to be covered with newspaper. We use a cellulose paste that adds strength and unity to these creations. paper mache3

In the final stage details, such as felt ears, button eyes, and yarn tails, add dimension and texture to these sculptures. Can you guess with which recycled materials the animal to the right, a fox, is created?paper mache5
