Felting Week!

Felt3It is Felting Week at Franklin School!  Students learn that felt comes from sheeps’ wool, and that water and friction cause the fibers to tightly interlock, creating felt fabric.  Today the fifth graders who chose felting gently layered colorful wool around smooth rocks and dipped it in soapy water.  They felted the fibers together for about 10 minutes, after which the rocks were cut out, leaving a pocket.  Brass fasteners provided the perfect “button” to close the felt pockets.
