Clay Studio Center

A student attaches “arms” to his snowman, a popular form as winter approaches.

Our newest center to open is the Clay Studio! Due to its plasticity, clay provides unique opportunities for students to explore pottery, slab building, and relief sculpture, as well as 3D sculpture. Since clay requires a lot of time to label, fire, sort, and re-fire glazed pottery, this center is limited to 8 students per class. Ceramic and sculptural techniques are demonstrated and then students can choose what they would like to create with clay. Clay artworks must be completely dry before they can be fired in the kiln – this takes about a week. Stay tuned for the results!

This small box, constructed with slabs, will have low walls that are attached using the scoring method to secure the clay pieces together.
